• They are clean and green producing a high calorie heat output
• CO2 emissions from wooden briquettes are much less than oil, log, coal or gas for the same amount of heat
• Wooden briquettes are a sustainable fuel as they are most often produced from wood which is growing in sustainable forests or recycled
• The price of wood briquettes is less than other forms of fuel such as heating oil
• The price of wooden briquettes is more stable than other forms of fuel such as heating oil or gas
• Wood briquettes are widely available with over 9 million tonnes produced annually in Europe
• The net carbon dioxide emissions from biomass are much lower than the emissions from fossil fuels if the resource is managed carefully.
• Burning fossil fuels releases large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. It would take millions of years for this CO2 to be turned back into coal, oil or gas and therefore this not considered as renewable.
• One of the great advantages of using Biomass as your renewable heating source is the low CO2 emissions, which is significantly lower than traditional fossil fuels and even lower than ground or air source heat pumps.
• Because burning biomass releases only the same amount of CO2 into the atmosphere that would be released if the biomass was to die naturally and left to rot, it is considered part of the natural carbon cycle.
• The CO2 released is absorbed as new trees grow and therefore the overall release of CO2 is said to be zero. Of course there will be some CO2 released during the manufacture and transportation of biomass products however, this is generally very low if sourced locally.
